But in all seriousness, it seems like any time there is a James Bond anniversary or new film coming out (Speaking of which: Who is excited for Skyfall? This girl is! Daniel Craig is a brilliant Bond in my opinion), all the entertainment shows and websites seem to have polls about who everyone's favourite "Bond-Girl" is. Or, more frequently, who in their opinion is the "greatest" Bond-Girl out of all the films.
I find this question to be a little silly considering how most of the James Bond films (and novels! can't forget about them) feature multiple conquests of the female variety, and no Bond-Girl really crosses over from one tale to the next. Arguably, Bond did basically fall in love with Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale (which was quite effective in the film), but once the implications of this relationship stepped-over into Quantam of Solace, it created more of a jumble than anything else. That is, on top of all the other issues within that film.
Of course, some James Bond novels and films are more "iconic" or memorable than others, and as such, the women from those movies also become more notable. But at the end of it all, how can you decide which is the most memorable, or who had the most "kickassitude" when there are so many who all played such different parts?
Well I have the answer to the "who is the greatest Bond-Girl of all time" question, and that answer is Dame Judi Dench as M.
Now now, stop rolling your eyes at me and think about it. That woman just commands attention and respect onscreen, and her character truly cares for Bond. Not to mention, she is one of the only females who can be seen across multiple Bond stories, and as such, has had a much greater presence than any other woman that was just tossed aside before her.
Okay, yes, I do recognize that M has been portrayed by other actors before, but these were all males up until Dame Judi Dench, and thus, I feel my ultimate decision still stands.
So it would be nice if people would stop asking the question as to who (so far) has been the "best" Bond-Girl. Asking who someone's favourite is is okay, of course, as that is more of a personal thing, but when it comes down to greatness, no one will ever touch Dame Judi Dench.
Except for maybe Ben Whishaw as Q in the upcoming, Skyfall, but I think that might just be me...(Regardless: Look at how cute and clever!)
